We can all agree that moving to New York is exciting and full of new experiences, but sometimes you can’t help but miss the little things from back home—including food!
If you’re in the Big Apple, here are some options:
British Food Shops in New York
If you happen to be in the Big Apple, we have a few very specific recommendations for you too:
Myers of Keswick
634 Hudson St R13, New York, NY
Myers of Keswick is a specialty store filled with third-generation homemade savoury British pies, sausages and scones. It has loads of British brands and if you’re missing a bit of home away from home then this might be your answer.
Tea and Sympathy
108 Greenwich Avenue New York, NY 10011
A West Village institution, Tea and Sympathy has come through some hard times in recent years and remains a great place to stock up on all your favourites. (Check out A Salt & Battery (get it?), a fish-and-chip shop owned by the same people, nextdoor.)
Sweet O’Clock
69 2nd Avenue, New York, NY 10003
An Irish and British candy store with all your home needs.
The Hamlet
23 S. Moger Avenue, Mount Kisco, NY 10549
This one’s a bit further out of town, but it’s a lovely-looking family shop with all your creature comforts.
Other options
- Online retailers: The easiest way to get your hands on British food is by ordering it online. There are loads of websites that specialize in importing British products and will ship them directly to your doorstep. Some popular options include British Corner Shop, The English Tea Store, and of course Amazon.
- International food markets: If you prefer to shop in person, look for international food markets in your area. These stores often have a section dedicated to British products. You may even be able to find some lesser-known brands that aren’t available in mainstream American stores.
